SELMA, Calif. (KFSN) -- The family has identified the victim of Friday's deadly crash as 67-year-old Bernardino De La Riva. They say, the father of seven, grandfather and great-grandfather, would go above and beyond for his community.

Now they're trying to figure out some way to give him the burial they say he deserves.

The De La Riva family is ending 7-year-old Jayden's birthday on a somber note. His great-grandfather, Bernardino De La Riva, was killed while riding his bicycle Friday.

Just after noon Friday, De la Riva was pedaling into the crosswalk at Floral and Highland avenues when the driver of a waste management truck made a right turn, striking and killing him.

His daughter Maria was notified by her son. Knowing her father spent most of his day on his bike she went to check.

De La Riva died instantly.

Now in shock, the family is trying to find a way to memorialize their patriarch, even setting up a Go Fund Me Account -- adding he was the type of man to put service above self and always had a smile on his face.

Selma police are still actively investigating the death and have not identified the driver of the garbage truck.
