The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1tWIFHz) the boy was flown to a hospital for treatment after the incident Saturday in the Georgetown area.

In a statement Monday, sheriff's officials said the boy, with the help of his father, was shooting at targets with a .22-caliber youth rifle while another adult was also firing nearby.

The statement said as family members looked on, the 7-year-old grabbed his chest in pain. The father found a small hole in the child's t-shirt and found the boy was bleeding from the chest.

The boy's condition was not known early Tuesday.
