Big rig catches fire near Chowchilla, driver escapes unhurt

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A big rig went up in flames near Chowchilla on Saturday afternoon. The fire was reported on southbound Highway 99 near Vista Avenue.

The blaze sent thick, black smoke billowing into the sky and across the nearby railroad tracks. The driver made it out of the truck without getting hurt.

The California Highway Patrol had to shut down the slow lane, and crews were still working to put out the blaze at last check. There is no word yet on what caused the semi to catch fire.
