KERMAN, Calif. (KFSN) -- A former high school science teacher is under arrest in Kerman. He's accused of burning down his own house.

Authorities were called to a fire at the home last month. Investigators believe the fire was intentionally set. Evidence at the scene led them to William Pope. He's the homeowner and a former high school science teacher.

Deputy Fire Marshal Don MacAlpine said, "There was some burn patterns I found to be very unusual. I suspected some sort of an accelerant used that's not commonly seen in my profession."

Aside from burn patterns, investigators say there were other items inside the house that led them to suspect the fire was set intentionally.
