Fantastic Furniture roof collapses in Central Fresno
The roof fell directly onto the showroom floor that was filled with brand new furniture.

FRESNO, Calif. -- A roof collapse has forced a Fresno furniture store to shut down.

The collapse also led police to shutdown part of Blackstone Avenue near Michigan in Central Fresno.

Two lanes of southbound Blackstone are shutdown between Cornell and Michigan. Right now fire crews are waiting for fencing crews to close this area off. We're told Fantastic Furniture is so unstable it could collapse at any moment.

This all started around 2:00 Monday afternoon -- when the roof gave way. Luckily no one was injured and there were no customers inside. Fire officials say the trusses and framing of the roof collapsed because of a large crack in the arched roof. Three employees working at the time were able to make it out just before the building crumbled.

Fire officials say all the contents of the building will be lost because the building is too unstable to go inside. The owner is responsible for getting a security guard for this evening to prevent looting and the fire department says they won't leave the area until a security guard is posted at the building.
