Fresno Police Throw Block Party to Connect With Residents
Local families had a chance to meet officers and enjoy a free lunch along with music, games, and other entertainment.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno Police Department worked to connect with residents in a positive way Saturday.

Officers threw a block party at John Burroughs Elementary School in east-central Fresno. Local families had a chance to meet officers and enjoy a free lunch along with music, games, and other entertainment.

It also gave neighbors a chance to share any concerns firsthand.

"They get to see us in a different light," said Lt. Mark Salazar of the Fresno Police Department. "Not so much seeing us out there taking enforcement action, but actually officers that care about them."

The Walmart on Kings Canyon avenue donated the two new bicycles and helmets that were given away, and volunteers from local faith-based organizations were on hand to help any other residential needs.
