FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Central Fresno. They say a teenager pulled the trigger on his older brother.

Investigators say it happened inside an apartment near Dakota and Thorne just after 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Police arrested a 17-year-old at Palm and Fedora who they say shot and killed family member three blocks away. Shahara Hansbur knew the victim and the teenage suspect who live nearby.

"They were brothers," said Hansbur. "They seemed to be loving and caring brothers. I couldn't understand why this happened but I knew they were very great boys."

Witnesses reported shots fired Wednesday afternoon. When police arrived on scene, they found the 23-year-old victim.

"He was deceased from gunshot wounds. Information we were told at the scene was that this was a family disturbance," said Sgt. Mike Smith.

Investigators say the shooter tried to get away but was followed by a witness. Officers caught up to him and arrested him soon after.

Neighbors say both brothers were kind to everyone who lived nearby.

"Always, as I took walks to the store with my kids they were very cheerful and what has happened today in the neighborhood was very hurtful, very shocking," said Hansbur.

The victim's name has not been released.
