Illinois plane crash kills 3

PALOS HILLS, Ill. -- Three people were killed when a small plane crashed in southwest suburban Palos Hills late Sunday night, according to officials.

The plane departed Midway International Airport heading for Lawrence, Kansas. The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft was a twin-engine Beechcraft Baron registered to ARC Aviation, LLC, which is based in Lawrence.

Palos Hills police said the plane went down in the 10100-block of South 86th Court around 10:40 p.m. Sunday. The plane did not hit any homes in the busy, residential area before it crashed.

Residents heard the plane having trouble overhead and rushed to see what happened.

"I heard the loud deceleration of a prop plane. It was very distinctive, very loud. It instantly woke me. I had just gone to bed. There was a split-second pause and then a large boom," Mike D'Allesio said.

FAA officials said three people were on board. Police said they did not find any survivors. The victims have not yet been identified.

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating the cause of the crash.
