Kerman man killed after car crashes into a canal

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The CHP said a car ran off North Avenue and into a canal sometime early Saturday morning.

Investigators say the 18-year-old was driving east on North Avenue, near Jameson Avenue, when he ran off the road, hit a dirt embankment, and overturned into the canal. They said the victim was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle which was found upside-down in the canal around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The driver was the only person in the car and was confirmed deceased at the scene. At this time, it is unknown how fast the he was traveling, or if alcohol was a factor.

The incident is still under investigation. The identity of the driver has not been released.
