ATWATER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Atwater police say a man bit one of their officers and assaulted a customer inside a convenience store.

John Grissom was arrested around 10 p.m. Monday after struggling with authorities. He's accused of attacking a customer and then waving a gun at people inside the Circle K on Shaffer Road near Atwater Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they spotted a pistol hanging out of his pocket. They say Grissom refused to comply with orders, so they tried using a Taser on him but it didn't penetrate his leather jacket. They finally used force to take the 42-year-old into custody.

But Grissom is accused of biting an officer on the bicep while being booked into jail. That officer may be out of work temporarily as a result.
