Man arrested after attempted carjacking in Northeast Fresno, police say

Police said the suspect, Jesse Moreno of Fresno, tried to beat up the driver and steal his truck -- but the victim fought back.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Police said a man was waiting for his son in the parking lot of Burlington Coat Factory with the engine running when Moreno walked to the driver's side door and asked him for money. The victim told him no, and Moreno started to walk off, but returned, opened the driver's door, started to hit the driver before pushing him to the passenger side. Moreno then jumped into the truck and put it in gear.

Police said the victim then fought back and Moreno got out of the truck and ran away.

Witnesses told police the suspect ran to the embankment of Freeway 41 near Auto Center Driver. Moreno was identified by the victim and other witnesses.

Police say Moreno has prior arrests involving stolen property, firearms, and grand theft. He is also a self-admitted bulldog gang member.
