Member of gardening crew shot and killed near Porterville

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A search is underway for the gunmen responsible for a deadly shooting just outside Porterville.

It happened in the area of Springville and Success just after 11 a.m. Friday. Investigators say the victim was part of a gardening crew who was doing some work outside of a home. They say two men approached the victim -- at least one of them armed with a high-powered weapon.

"The two suspects opened fire, striking one of the individuals doing work in the yard, and the suspects then fled down a dirt drive toward the Tule River," said Lt. Mark Gist with the Tulare County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities continue their search for both suspects. The unidentified victim is a 20-year-old man.
