Police: Stolen car slams into fire hydrant in Merced
Police say a man caused a major mess after crashing a stolen car into a fire hydrant in Merced Saturday morning.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police say a man caused a major mess after crashing a stolen car into a fire hydrant in Merced Saturday morning.

Photos showed water shooting into the air outside the Wendy's restaurant on Martin Luther King Jr. Way near 15th Street.

Merced police officers say the driver lost control just before 7 a.m. and started driving south in the northbound lanes. The car hit a street light and the fire hydrant, causing the water line to break.

Witnesses spotted two young men run away from the scene.

Investigators arrested 19-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez. He's accused of being the driver. An 18-year-old passenger was treated for minor cuts but not taken into custody.
