CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- For the first time ever a traveling memorial to the global war on terrorism has made its way to the Central Valley. The Wall of Remembrance is now on display at Clovis Hills Community Church.

There are thousands of names of the fallen on the Wall of Remembrance -- heart breaking reality of the global war on terrorism.

U.S. Navy Sailor and Buchanan Grad Robert Winter said, "Every single name on that is a brother, a dad, a husband. I got the eight guys from Buchanan. I knew one of them."

Viewing the wall was a humbling experience for Buchanan graduate and sailor Robert Winter.

On home from leave, Winter will be volunteering his time at the wall, standing watch at night so people can remember around the clock.

On Thursday, members from Fresno fire, the military and community held a patriotic salute to open the wall to the public. Members of the Military Ministry from Clovis Hills worked for months to bring the wall to the Valley for the first time.

Wall of Remembrance organizer Rene Quintero explained, "You look at this wall and you see the names here, there's almost 11,000 names on this wall and it's powerful. It is history and it's something we can't forget. We can never forget it."

Quintero says he hopes the public comes out to learn about history and that freedom isn't free.

Quintero added, "We need to remember what our heroes, our fallen heroes have done for us, how they've laid down their lives for us and some have made the ultimate sacrifice."

The wall will be on display through Sunday. On Saturday, a health fair will be held for veterans of every generation.

This is the 53rd time the wall has gone up. Organizers tell ABC30, it will be retired after its visit here in the Valley.
