BROOKLYN BRIDGE -- City officials are trying to figure out why two white flags are flying at the top of the Brooklyn Bridge where American flags are usually placed.

The NYPD is investigating.

NYPD ESU officers were taking down the white flags, which may be painted over American flags. The American flag is faintly visible under the white.

Police will review surveillance cameras to determine how the flags were apparently switched.
