One of the most important day for immigrants who were brought into this country illegally as children is finally here-- the deadline to renew DACA applications.

After Thursday the DACA Program will no longer accept application renewals. And for those that do not yet have theirs in it could be too late.

President Trump announced in September that the DACA Program will no longer be accepting new applications and those whose registration expired between September 5th and March 5th of next year had until October 5th to renew their papers. This renewal allows them to stay in school or work, but now if their papers are not finalized they could face deportation.

The deadline is part of what homeland security is calling an "orderly wind-down" of the program. The program will phase out over the next six months.

"It has, it does impact a lot those who already have a stable job, stable lives, and they have their families here who are parents. It does affect a lot of them in kind of that insecurity as to what is going to happen to them afterward"

The applications must be received by Homeland Security by October 5th, 2017, and not postmarked.

President Trump has now called on Congress to create legislation that would address current U.S. residents brought to the U.S. illegally as children. In one tweet he even called on Congress to quote, "legalize DACA."

If legislative action is not taken, DACA recipients could begin to lose benefits starting March 6th of next year.
