Fresno considers putting water rate increase before the voters
Fresno voters may get to decide if they want their water rates to go up. After fighting it for months, the city council agreed to put the controversial question on the ballot, but only after they take two weeks to study it further.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno voters may get to decide if they want their water rates to go up. After fighting it for months, the city council agreed to put the controversial question on the ballot, but only after they take two weeks to study it further.

The debate over Fresno's water rate increases, raged at city hall Thursday. City council member Lee Brand accused opponents of the water rate increases of spreading misinformation. But Doug Vagim, who is leading the opposition to the rate increases fought back.

Vagim heads the Measure W campaign, which fought to let the voters decide whether they want to pay more to finance expansion of the city's water system. Vagim accused the city of a stalling tactic designed to keep Measure W off the November ballot.
