MADERA COUNTY (KFSN) -- A pursuit ended with an armed suspect barricading himself in a trunk in Madera County.

On Wednesday, the Madera County Sheriff's Office received a call to assist California Highway Patrol with a pursuit in the area of Highway 41 and Road 630. The pursuit has ended in a single car crash but the suspect refused to exit the car and was armed.

After a while, the subject eventually crawled through the car and barricaded himself in the trunk. After nearly five hours of negotiating and trying to force the subject out with water and chemical agents, deputies and officers were able to remove the suspect from the trunk of the vehicle.

Authorities said the suspect was taken into custody by CHP and taken to the hospital.
