Small Business Saturday Lifts Valley Stores

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Small Business Saturday takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving and some local stores said it's been a great one for them.

A lot of shoppers stopped by Old Town Clovis for special deals and promotions. Revival 23 even offered food, drawings, and gift card giveaways.

The owner said this day is a chance to make the most of the post-Thanksgiving shopping rush. Her sales were up about 500 percent over last year.

"We can't compete with the big-box stores on Friday," said Revival 23 owner Teresa Pries. "So, today is our day, extra customer service, styling, et cetera. And really giving them the one-on-one experience."

According to a poll by Survey USA, 21 percent of those asked plan to do nearly all of their shopping in locally owned businesses.
