Clovis neighborhood gets decked out for Christmas
Many Valley communities have a street nicknamed "Candy Cane Lane" during the Christmas holiday.

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Many Valley communities have a street nicknamed "Candy Cane Lane" during the Christmas holiday. Residents of the Clovis version spent the day after Thanksgiving getting their street ready for all to see.

Just about everybody who lives on Candy Cane Lane in Clovis is busy working to get their decorations up. Almost all of the homes on this four-block stretch of West Athens Avenue go all out for Christmas.

Lindy Rice has a yard full of classic handmade displays, featuring Santa's sleigh and a family of snowmen, along with thousands of lights.

"Every year we do it, we kind of all year we dread it, but once we do it we are excited that it's out," said Rice.

On this street, elaborate displays are put up in most every yard.

Residents go all out and resident Charolette Renna says their decorations draw even more holiday attractions.

"Christmas carolers, horse-drawn carriages, church choirs, all kinds of things, and we do hayrides, fire pits; it's just a good feeling," she said.

And while the residents of this neighborhood enjoy making others happy, Rice says there are sacrifices.

"We get hundreds of people every day coming through our neighborhood, walking, driving," she said. "We kind of know after December 2nd or 3rd you don't leave the house after 6 or you will spend a long time trying to get back in the neighborhood."

And all this doesn't come cheap. Residents told us their electric bills go up by from $200 to $400 during the month of December.
