FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Following weeks of restoration and clean up, a Nissan Rogue will get a new life helping families in need. Wednesday, Maaco of Fresno, along with a number of local businesses, donated the mid-size SUV to the Family Promise Shelter of Modesto.

"It really was a community effort, and after 25 years of doing it I still get a big kick out of giving cars away like family promise-- it's just a good feeling," said Mike Murphy, Maaco Collision Repair & Auto.

Murphy and his unselfish team at Maaco have given away dozens of restored cars to families in need over the years.

"I saw the opportunity and Maaco saw the opportunity to get involved again, and of course we jumped on it. It was a no brainer for us-- it's something we enjoy doing and we want to do and something my crew loves to do."

That tireless effort will go a long way to help members of the community get back on their feet.

Family Promise provides emergency shelter to homeless children and their families, and said this donation could not have come at a better time.

"Without this car we would not be able to provide the level of transportation. We are expanding our coverage because of this to include transportation that will take people to look for work, look for housing, and hopefully help them get back on their feet," said Tamra Losinski, Family Promise Executive Director.

Vehicle restoration and donation is conducted through the National Auto Body Council's Recycled Rides Program.
