Saying thank you with a fresh coat of paint
It's not the biggest Veterans Day event in the Valley. But for Marvin Fry, it might be the most memorable he's ever had.

VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Valley veteran was given a huge gift with his home of nearly 40 years being repainted for free.

It's not the biggest Veterans Day event in the Valley. But for Marvin Fry, it might be the most memorable he's ever had.

A-Plus Custom Painting of Visalia painted his home for free. The company's annual "Paint it Forward" started four years ago. They take nominations from the community and pick one veteran each year to paint their home.

The company's painters and other volunteers donated four days to get all the painting down in time for a Veterans Day celebration. For Marvin, a Korean War Navy veteran, the act is life-changing.

Marvin explained, "I've never been honored so much in all my life in my 83 years."

Marvin says it's hard to put into words how grateful he really is -- his wife too says they feel blessed.

Pat added, "It's very uplifting he's always felt like the Korean War kind of went unrecognized and so this is just a confirmation of what he did in the service and how much they really were appreciated."

A-Plus Custom Painting says they went through 40 gallons of paint. Sherwin Williams stepped in to help with the project, donating all the paint.

The painting company is already planning for next year's paint giveaway.
