FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Nearly 2,000 children have Christmas gifts this year, thanks to the largest Toys for Tots distribution in Central California.

Families lined up around the block over the weekend to pick up presents at the United Way of Fresno County. The organization usually hands out 500 toys, but the non-profit collaborated with the Marine Corps League to give out almost 2,000 toys to help meet the need here in the Valley.

"Their families don't have a lot of resources, so many had to walk here, some had to drive, but they don't have the ability to buy toys, so we take that burden off of them by giving their child a toy so they'll have a toy for Christmas and seeing the smile on their face, that's worth it," said Michael Alexander, United Way of Fresno County President and CEO.

Toys for Tots is still trying to help even more families. One more drop off event will be held on Monday at Guri's Grub House on Shaw near Cedar from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. You're asked to bring new, unwrapped toys or make a cash donation.
