CS Bakersfield holds off Fresno State 71-63

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Jaylin Airington had 28 points as Cal State Bakersfield held off a late Fresno State charge to take a 71-63 win on Tuesday night.

The Roadrunners, who never trailed after the opening two minutes, held a 34-25 halftime advantage and stretched that to 57-38 midway in the second period. However Fresno State had a 14-6 run to close to 63-52 with 2:20 left. The Roadrunners made six free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Airington and Damiyne Durham, who finished with 15 points, combined to score 22 of CSU Bakersfield's 34 points in the first half.

The Roadrunners (3-1) made 6 of 18 from long range while Fresno State managed just 2 of 12 from distance. CSU Bakersfield also won the rebound battle, 43-30, grabbing 18 offensive boards.

Cullen Russo and Jaron Hopkins had 12 points apiece for Fresno State (2-2).
