FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno City softball team has been on a tear all season long and will enter the Nor-Cal Regional Playoffs on Saturday as the #2 seed. Rams will have a good chance to win a state title this weekend.

From the outside softball practice at Fresno City may look like just an average practice. But take a closer look and it's easy to be proven otherwise.

"We're pretty stacked, especially when it comes to our hitting. We are putting up numbers we've never put up before," said Sarah Santana, Rams pitcher.

Number, wins, rankings, the Fresno City softball team is having a historic season, 35-4 this year, a perfect 18-0 in conference play, and the #2 seed in the Nor Cal playoffs.

"I think it's just their will to win. They have a real deep desire to win, and they find a way to get it done," said Adri Martinez, Rams 1st baseman.

Head coach Rhonda Williams is in her 21st season of leading the Rams program, and like many of the players on her team she is well decorated with awards and accolades. But it's something that can't be quantified with an award that makes this team go.

"Coach Williams is very relaxed, not the one to yell and scream and get in our face. She keeps all of us level headed, we have a lot of confidence and she's instilled that in us," said Martinez.

"We try to recruit Valley players that have come from winning programs. We've just got a good group of girls that understand what it takes and they don't like to lose," said Williams.

"To win a state title, to go all the way, to be the best of the best, and with the season we've had it would be just the perfect way to end it," said Martinez.

The Rams quest at their first ever state title begins on Saturday in a best-of-3 series against Ohlone College in Fresno with a chance into move into the 2nd round.

The baseball team not to be outdone. They will host College of San Mateo beginning Friday.
