Good Sports: FCC Women's Soccer
Almost every year since 2007 the Rams have visited their friends at Children's Hospital. The team takes pride in spreading smiles and laughter to everyone they meet.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- With just days to go before its NorCal first round playoff game, Children's Hospital Central California isn't where you'd expect to find the state's top-ranked junior college women's soccer team. But there they were. Soccer could wait.

"Part of developing the whole person and the benefits that we have is going to places like Children's," FCC goalkeeper coach Mary-Tyler Wahl said.

Almost every year since 2007 the Rams have visited their friends at Children's Hospital. The team takes pride in spreading smiles and laughter to everyone they meet.

"It's just like a really wonderful feeling and experience just to be there and to be a part of their smile," sophomore goalkeeper Maria Magana said. "They'll probably remember you and we'll probably remember them."

"Being able to reach out and just be next to them," sophomore defender Makayla Godden added, "and laugh with them and take selfies was just an awesome experience for me and for the whole entire team."

Less than an hour after leaving the hospital, the Rams are back on the practice field with a big target on their backs. They went 19-0-2 this past regular season, scoring 89 goals and only giving up seven, to finish undefeated for the first time in program history. They say nothing can faze this band of sisters.

"We're like a second family," Magana said. "And it's just a great experience to be a part of this history that we made in school."

"I look forward to hanging out with the girls every single day and I feel like it's mutual too," Godden added. "We all just look forward to hanging out, playing soccer, doing the thing that we love.>

And Saturday morning's playoff game against Diablo Valley College is the first step towards the program's first ever state title. There's no shortage of confidence with these Rams.

"We just have to all believe in our hearts and show it on the field what we can do," Godden said. "And I believe with the talent and players on this team, we can definitely get to that point."

"It's just a matter of mentality and being focused and being willing go all out," Magana said. "Leave everything out on the field, because it possibly could be your last game."

Good sports in the community, and of course, on the pitch.
