FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Democrat Adam Gray is now projected to win California's 13th Congressional District, according to ABC News.

As of Tuesday night, results show that Gray has secured just over 50% of the vote against Republican incumbent John Duarte, with only 187 votes separating them.

Gray released a statement declaring victory Tuesday evening, writing that he is honored to become the Congressman-elect.

"The final results confirm this district is ready for independent and accountable leadership that always puts the Valley's people ahead of partisan politics," Gray wrote.

"But the work has just begun. In Washington, I'll work everyday to deliver the resources that the Valley needs: clean water, better educational opportunities, stronger infrastructure, and more good-paying jobs. And you can count on me to build bipartisan relationships to accomplish these goals.

I am deeply grateful to all those who volunteered their time, chipped in to help our campaign, or took a moment out of their busy day to learn about our race. And I am especially thankful for my campaign team, my friends, and my family."

Duarte released a statement Wednesday morning, conceding his bid for re-election:

"Serving our Valley in Washington, DC, has been an honor. I am incredibly proud of everything we accomplished together, especially the millions of dollars worth of community projects that will provide clean water, good roads, and flood safety for our families, no matter what neighborhood they call home..." Duarte said in part.

"...I called Congressman-elect Gray last night and congratulated him on his hard-fought win. I look forward to working with him to ensure that his team can hit the ground running to serve our Valley. I will make sure that all of our constituents who need help from the government will have their cases transferred to Congressman-elect Gray's team.

While my time in Congress is ending, my love for our Valley will never go away. I will stay active in the fight to make our Valley a better place for all."

The race between Gray and Duarte has been one of the closest in the country, coming down to the deadline for election results to be certified in the state.

The 13th district, which was redrawn following the 2020 census, includes parts of Fresno, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.
