They've added "Offender Watch" on their website. The program makes it easy to check your neighborhood and see whether any registered sex offenders are living there.
That's a lot like Megan's List, but offender watch will also send you an e-mail any time a sex offender moves within a mile of your home. For the sheriff's department, it's a first step in finding new ways to do more with less.
Sheriff Margaret Mims said, "We need to get involved in technology and the Internet and how to deliver public service through other means other than the deputy just showing up at the door."
The Offender Watch program is also sharing information with police departments in Kingsburg, Sanger, Coalinga, Kerman and at Fresno State and Fresno City College.
