ABC30 Switches To Digital TV

Fresno, CA Andres Madrigal of Fresno set out to remove the snow from his screen by setting up his digital TV converter box. He first had to navigate the maze of wires and cables behind the entertainment center. Madrigal took his old rabbit ears antenna and hooked it up to the converter box.

A check of the set-up guide helped Madrigal enter the age of digital TV. His TV finally started scanning for channels. Andres and his wife Alma knew right away this was a good change. Andres was surprised by the crisp picture. He said, "Yeah I've never seen my TV like that when I had cable before but I haven't had cable for a long time."

The Madrigals were among the dozens of shoppers who created a last-minute, holiday-like rush at the Best Buy in north Fresno. Jesse Gibson of Best Buy said, "People will always wait until the last second. I don't know why that is. Human nature I guess."

The store ran out of antennas and is expecting 600 more converter boxes on Saturday. Some folks like Donna Musselman found their 40-dollar government coupons had expired. If that's the case, you can apply for another one.

Some people we talked to had trouble figuring out how to get their newer TVs to re-scan for channels. Typically it's done on-screen with your remote.
