12 Inmates Released from Fresno County Jail Due to Overcrowding

FRESNO, Calif. The decision comes just days after Sheriff Margaret Mims won a lawsuit against the Fresno County Supervisors involving lay-offs and early inmate releases.

On Thursday, a Fresno County judge ordered the County Board of Supervisors to rescind an earlier decision blocking Sheriff Mims' from laying off 23-correctional officers.

In the past, Mims has said she planned to close a floor at the jail because of the layoffs, which would likely prompt the early release of inmates.

Mims has been forced to trim almost three-million dollars from the department's budget.
