State Assembly candidate being called a hero

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Matt Gray says he was just on his way to the store when he saw a black plume of smoke coming from the home. He says he stopped the car and saw a frantic homeowner who told him her son was still inside. So he quickly ran toward the burning building.

"Immediately I thought there was a kid inside I started toward the building to look inside one of the guys tried to stop me and said it's too late," said Matt Gray.

Gray decided to grab a hose and start crawling into the home, spraying the ceiling as he went. He then spotted a man on the floor and pulled him out with the help of other bystanders.

But authorities say it was too late and the 60 year old man died from his injuries. Gray was treated for smoke inhalation at the hospital.
