FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- State health officials are telling people not to eat a certain brand of caramel apples because they could be tainted with listeria.

Happy Apple brand caramel apples are now recalled because of deadly cases of listeria. Five people have died and almost 30 people are sick in 10 states. The caramel apples are sold at grocery stores around the country -- including Safeway -- which is now facing a lawsuit because of a woman who died from listeria in Santa Cruz County.

Happy Apple has a manufacturing facility in Tulare County, near Orosi, but is based in Missouri.
