24th annual First Nations Powwow held at Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The sound of drums filled the Fresno State campus on Saturday. The 24th annual First Nations Powwow was held at O'Neill Park on Barstow Avenue.

The Native American student group puts on the event to raise awareness of the indigenous culture and also preserve its heritage. Tribes from across the Central Valley attend each year.

"The powwow besides having a way of showing our tradition of our side, it's also like a big family reunion. People like I said come around from Fresno, from Madera, from up in Auberry, Three Rivers, Hanford, from all over. We have a gentleman here that's from Bakersfield," said Julia Arias, a First Nations volunteer.

The powwow was scheduled to continue through 9 p.m. Saturday.
