Communities that have been devastated by the Creek Fire burning in Fresno and Madera counties can apply for federal aid. Here's how:

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- As the Creek Fire continues to smolder, communities that have been devastated by the massive wildfire can now apply for federal aid.

The wildfire has scorched more than 379,000 acres and destroyed hundreds of homes in Fresno and Madera Counties since September 4.

A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) aid trailer will be in Oakhurst through Saturday to help people register for disaster aid. It's located at Mountain Christian Center Church on Highway 49.

The mobile intake center will be open from 10 am to 7 pm.

FEMA's website says applicants with major damage will be contacted by the agency to go over the damages to their properties. You should receive a call within 10 days of applying.

People who have reported more minimal damage to their homes will not be called by an inspector. Instead, they'll receive a letter with assistance options from FEMA.

FEMA suggests residents who have insurance contact their providers when they apply for federal assistance to prevent any delays.

The deadline to register with FEMA for disaster assistance is December 16.
