CA DOJ files vehicular manslaughter charge against Kings County Judge

KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Kings County judge has been charged for a crash that killed a 63-year-old bicyclist in Hanford last year.

On Tuesday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence against Judge Kendra Weber.

The crash happened last September on Hanford Armona Road and 16th Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol said a car, now known to have been driven by Judge Weber, collided with a bike.

Officers said the man on the bike, identified as Bryan Leroy Garcia, was not wearing a helmet.

The complaint filed in the Kings County Superior Court alleges Judge Weber was driving "a vehicle in the commission of an unlawful act." The complaint did not further elaborate what that unlawful act was.

Gov. Gavin Newsom nominated Weber to serve as a Kings County judge in 2023.
