FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Over the last week, multiple wildfires have broken out throughout Central California.
Crews from across the country have joined the fights in counties such as Fresno, Tuolumne, Mariposa and Madera.
A mixture of high winds, thunderstorms and lightning in the Valley has made the efforts to control the fires even more difficult.

Several lightning-sparked fires are burning in parts of Tuolumne and Calaveras counties, destroying homes and forcing widespread evacuations.

As the Garnet Fire spread north on Wednesday, Dinkey Creek Campground closed to the public and the site was set up for fire crews.
The lakeside and downtown were much quieter after the Labor Day weekend, which locals expect every year. Jerry Sandstrom, owner of the Sierra Marina, says the emptiness likely has more to do with the season than the fire.
While Sandstrom isn't worried about the Garnet fire reaching his area, he said he always keeps a close eye on the fire activity.

The ongoing Garnet Fire in Fresno County, along with several new wildfires sparked by lightning yesterday, are producing smoke that is drifting into the Valley, affecting air quality across the region.
As a result, the District has issued an Air Quality Alert with the National Weather Service.
The alert advised communities to remain indoors to limit the exposure to particulate matter (PM) emissions. Until the wildfires are completed contained, the risk for increased ozone and PM2.5 remains high.
The Air Quality alert is in place throughout the weekend.

The 1-3 and 1-4 fires in Madera and Mariposa County, which started Tuesday evening, have burned nearly 4,000 acres combined.
Madera-Mariposa-Merced CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Mike Houk says both fires have been controlled, but crews are still hard at work to hold those lines.
Evacuation orders and warnings for parts of Mariposa and Madera Counties, specifically around Eastman Lake, are still in effect but are being re-evaluated as of Wednesday.
