1 dead, 4 hospitalized after head-on crash in Merced County, CHP says

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman is dead and four others are in the hospital following a crash in Merced County.

It happened at Oakdale Road and Fisher Road around 8:30 am Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol says a 21-year-old woman was driving an SUV on Oakdale when she tried passing another car.

Officers say the driver of a Chevy Suburban saw the woman's headlights too late, and the vehicles crashed head-on.

The 21-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene. The other driver and three children in the Chevy Suburban were taken to the hospital.

Officers say the early-morning fog was a factor in the crash.

The 21-year-old woman has not been identified.
