13-year-old boy drowns near Cressey Bridge in Merced County

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 13-year-old boy died Saturday evening after disappearing beneath the water near Cressey Bridge in Merced County, according to the Merced County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and emergency crews responded around 7:15 p.m. to a 9-1-1 call reporting the boy was struggling in the water near Cressey Bridge on Santa Fe Drive.

Authorities said the boy went underwater and did not resurface. Rescue crews later found him, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. No additional information, including the boy's identity, has been released.
