FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Nearly four months after 18-year-old Karim Williams was found lying in a roadway with a fatal gunshot wound, investigators have announced new details about what they describe as a targeted attack involving six suspects.
"After over 1,000 hours of investigation, multiple witness interviews, 24 search warrants, both physical and forensic, six suspects were identified," Fresno Police Chief Mindy said on Monday.
Police say the suspects, four adults, a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old, have now been arrested in connection with the November killing.
Investigators believe Williams was targeted over a specific item.
"Further investigation revealed the motive for this murder, and that was the robbery of a Louis Vuitton wrapped pistol, known to be in Kari's possession," Chief Casto said.
According to detectives, the suspects, described as acquaintances of Williams, lured him to an apartment complex near Marks and McKinley avenues under the pretense of heading to a party.
"They proceeded to rob and murder him," Casto said.
Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp has filed charges against the four adult suspects: Kwame Pree, Jaylon Black, Josiah Rogers and Jaymari Sconiers.
Each faces counts of murder and robbery.
"These are children, these are young people, these are young adults who are engaged in these senseless acts of violence," Smittcamp said.
She also revealed that the 17-year-old suspect turned 18 shortly before his arrest. Prosecutors will charge him with murder and robbery, and will seek to move his case to adult court.
"These senseless acts of violence are really just disturbing for all of us, not only for Karim's family and friends, but for the entire community," Smittcamp said.
Because of state law, the 13-year-old suspect will remain in the juvenile justice system.
Three of the adult suspects are expected to appear in court for arraignment this week or next. The fourth adult, Kwame Pree, is currently being held at the California Department of Corrections and will be transferred to the Fresno County Jail before his arraignment.
