FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The neighbors of a quiet west-central Fresno neighborhood were left in shock on Tuesday afternoon.
One shared with Action News that he remembers walking out to his front yard and seeing several police cars and a helicopter overhead.
"Shocking because we have such a quiet neighborhood, nothing really goes on here," said one neighbor.
Fresno police responded to a stabbing on Hedges and Wheeler avenues around 12:30 p.m.
When officers arrived on scene, they found 41-year-old Aubery Galloway lying on a driveway with multiple stab wounds.
Galloway was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Detectives say 45-year-old London Smith is the man responsible.
"It appeared that these two individuals lived together. There was a disturbance between the two and unsure what that was about. At some point Mr. Galloway ran from the residence and was chased down and stabbed by our suspect in this incident," said Lt. Brian Valles.
Lieutenant Brian Valles says Galloway and Smith were roommates at a home just a few doors down from where Galloway was found.
They had a third roommate who witnessed the arguing before the situation escalated to the street.
Smith fled the scene, investigators worked through the night trying to find him and are warning the community.
"He should be considered armed and dangerous as the weapon in that incident is outstanding, some sort of stabbing instrument that was used," said Lt. Valles.
On Wednesday morning, people were seen washing and cleaning what appeared to be blood off the doorway of the house where Galloway and Smith lived.
A neighbor says he never imagined a crime like this happening near his home, where he's lived for 14 years.
"I feel bad for him...you never know what goes on," the neighbor said.
Lt. Valles says the suspect's prior crimes consist of misdemeanors.
This is the 4th homicide of the year in Fresno, compared to one homicide this time last year.
If you have any information on Smith's whereabouts, you can call the Fresno Police Department.
