Elderly man on scooter hit and killed by ambulance in Merced, police say

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 70-year-old man is dead after he was hit by an ambulance while riding his scooter in Merced.
Authorities responded to reports of a crash just before 3 p.m. Friday near G and 21st streets.
When they arrived, they found the man lying in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, the man died at the scene.
The driver of the ambulance remained on scene.
What led up to the collision remains under investigation.
