Electronic glasses helping people living with low vision

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Our eyes help us see a clearer picture. But sometimes, that image can turn blurry.

"So low vision is where people who have lost vision from macular degeneration, diabetes or stroke are unable to do activities that they typically could easily do before," said Dr. Andrew Bock, a low vision optometrist. "Such as reading, driving or watching television."

Living with low vision isn't easy. Not only does it physically affect a person's health, but it can also take an emotional toll.

Dr. Bock says his goal is to help improve the quality of life for people with the condition.

"I use the vision that they have and enhance it so that they can get back to doing the things they enjoy," said Dr. Bock.

While there is no cure for low vision, there are ways to help manage it, such as side vision glasses to help people who've been affected by a stroke. There's also a pair of electronic glasses.

"What they do is they stream in through the camera on the glasses, or there's also a camera on the phone that can be placed in the stand, and a patient would wear them," said Dr. Bock.

Dr. Bock explains that Eyedaptic Eyewear can help patients see screens and read better. Users are able to adjust the brightness and magnification level. There's even an AI function called Ivy.

"What I like about the electronic device, when it works, is that it can do multiple tasks," said Dr. Bock.

So far, Dr. Bock has prescribed the electronic device to several patients and has seen how it's helped them gain back their independence and joy.

"People are able to get back to things they were unable to do for years," said Dr. Bock. "A lot of my patients haven't read in years, and when we can get them a device such as Eyedaptic, it's life-changing.
