Former Bulldog Morice Norris in stable condition, NFL preseason game ends following injury

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The NFL preseason game between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons has been stopped after a former Bulldog was taken off the field by an ambulance.

According to multiple reports, Fresno native Morice Norris suffered an apparent head and neck injury during the fourth quarter while trying to tackle Falcons' running back Nathan Carter.

When play resumed, Falcons quarterback Emory Jones took a snap and then held the ball as players from both teams stood at the line of scrimmage and the clock continued to run. Finally, with 6:31 left, an official announced the game had been suspended "per New York."

The Lions announced on social media that Norris is in stable condition and has feeling and movement in all his extremities.

Norris was a linebacker with the Fresno State Bulldogs who started in 13 games of his senior year and was named Second Team All-Mountain West in 2023.

Norris went undrafted in the 2024 but later signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent. He was then signed to the Lions' active roster last December.

The Associated Press and ESPN contributed to this report.
