Fresno firefighter pleads not guilty to attempted murder of wife, officials say

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno Firefighter has pleaded not guilty for allegedly attempting to murder his wife.

Back on September 7, Madera County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the home of 44-year-old Emmanuel Chavez for a domestic violence incident.

He was reportedly covered in blood and refused to allow deputies inside the home.

They eventually forced their way inside and placed Chavez in handcuffs after a brief struggle.

Court documents say Chavez threatened his wife with a loaded shotgun and hit her with the butt-stock of the weapon in front of their child.

Along with attempted murder, Chavez is also facing weapons and child abuse charges.

He pleaded not guilty on Friday and is due back in court next month.

In a statement, the Fresno Fire Department says they have been made aware of the incident and have placed Chavez on administrative leave.
