FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is facing felony assault charges after police said he strangled a family member during an altercation that occurred with a baby in the room.
Jacob Ballinger was arrested in connection with an incident that happened last Thursday, according to Fresno police.
Investigators said the victim reported she was arguing with her sister when Ballinger, her brother-in-law, wrapped his hand around her neck. The victim fell backward and struck her head on a wall-mounted air conditioning unit.
Police say the victim was strangled for about three minutes, losing consciousness.
According to investigators, the victim's boyfriend attempted to pull Ballinger away while holding the couple's 3-month-old child. Police said the boyfriend was pushed, causing him to drop the baby.
Ballinger left the scene after the incident and was located Monday during an unrelated suspicious vehicle call and was taken into custody.
Ballinger was booked into the Fresno County Jail.
