Jack's Gas back-to-school giveaway event in Visalia

VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Showing his gratitude for customers, Yakoob Mohamed is gearing up to give away 1,000 backpacks to students who are back in school.

"We have been blessed in this establishment at Jack's Gas in Visalia. The people support and love us and continuously support us. It's something to give back to the community, and what they do for us," expresses Yakoob.

Jack's Gas is celebrating their fifth year of business in North Visalia.

They have hosted several raffles and giveaways through the years, but this year's purpose is a little different.

"In the summer, in June, when the problems were happening in L.A. with ICE, we were affected big time. People would sneak in the night to cash their checks," recalls Yakoob, "They used to come in with $700 - $800 down to $300, $400 the most. Half of your income is gone -- how are you going to survive? It's scary, so I hope this helps."

Saturday's event will include free raffles for five hover boards, more than 75 AirPods, two bikes, two iPads, an iPhone and a PS5.

There will also be free food, drinks, entertainment for children, reptile show, pony rides, different food vendors and much more.

"Tacos, everything for everyone. Banda, there is gonna be dancing. We appreciate all the people who support us here in Visalia, and we love you all. We love everyone here in Visalia," mentions Omar Mohamed, Jack's Gas Manager.

For Yakoob, his goal is to take care of the people who keep him in business..

"They always show love. They would rather drive, skip stores just to come to our location and buy from us, so that means a lot for me. Without the community, this is not possible. Without their love and support, it is not possible at all,' says Yakoob.

The event will take place this weekend on Saturday, August 30, from 3 pm to 8 pm

There are 1,000 backpacks, and it is first-come, first-served, so people are encouraged to get out here early.

Jack's Gas Number 3 is located in North Visalia on Dinuba Boulevard and Houston Avenue.
