FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A long-standing business in Fresno is breaking ground on a major expansion, aiming to boost business in the Central Valley.

"I think it's a commitment that says that Fresno is worthy of investing in, and it's also a commitment to our economy," said Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.

He and other local leaders gathered to celebrate Coast Aluminum Inc.'s recent pledge to the City of Fresno.

The metal supplier has provided industrial and specialty materials to local businesses since 1993, operating out of a building on North Avenue in southwest Fresno.

Now, a new 163,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility will be located near the intersection of Peach and McKinley Avenues.

The $42 million investment is expected to create work for residents across several fields.

"These are Fresno workers contributing their skills and their expertise to a project that will be long-standing," said city councilmember Nelson Esparza.

Coast Aluminum president Thomas Clark expressed his appreciation for the Valley on Wednesday, saying, "Fresno is meaningful, as you say, it's a home to me."

The Hayward-based business has 17 branches from the Western U.S. to Northern Mexico, but Clark says this city is special.

"Fresno's very interesting because it's a significant city, but yet it still feels like a neighborhood, a smaller town," Clark said.

Fresno was the company's very first branch, Clark says, and without it, the business would not have become what it is today.

"We now have 17 branches, and if we didn't have success here in Fresno, we wouldn't have 17 branches," he said.

The new facility is expected to be up and running in 2026 and will bring up to 100 new jobs to Fresno.
