Any eligible Merced College student who applies to ASU's online programs will automatically be considered for a tuition discount.

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- Merced College is working to make it easier and more affordable for students to seek higher education.
It is launching a new, affordable pathway to a bachelor's degree.
"There are really two main principles for a California community college: transfer and workforce development. This hits the transfer nail straight on the head," Vice President of Student Services, Mike McCandless said.
This fall, the college has a new partnership with Arizona State University.
Eligible students and alumni can save up to 22% on tuition through the California Community College Achievement Plan.
It's a partnership between ASU and select California community colleges, including Merced College.
Any eligible Merced College student who applies to ASU's online programs will automatically be considered for the tuition discount.
Ernesto Hernandez, Director of the Career & Transfer Center, says the college already offers a seamless transfer path to ASU.
This takes it a step further.
"It focuses more on the core of what our students are asking, which is affordability and college affordability," Hernandez said.
McCandless says the remote learning option could help retain local talent by allowing students to earn their degrees without leaving the area.
"This allows our students to get a top-notch education from home and keep their talents at home, serving Merced County and Merced city," he said.
Students will be able to choose from more than 180 online undergraduate degree programs.
McCandless says the partnership supports the college's mission and gives students a clear, affordable path to continue their education.
"Creating additional pathways and opportunities for our students to transfer is primary for us, and this is a very appealing option, not only in the affordability, but also the prestige of the university in which they can transfer and the ability to stay at home," McCandless said.
