CAL FIRE: Illegal fireworks sparked brush fire near Millerton Lake

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- CAL FIRE officials have confirmed that illegal fireworks sparked a brush fire burning near Millerton Lake in Fresno County.

The flames broke out Monday night near the Pincushion Peak trailhead on Sky Harbour Road and El Lado Road.

California Highway Patrol officers were called about 10:30 pm to block off roads and help control traffic at Millerton and Sky Harbour Roads near Table Mountain Casino.

Officials say the fire has burned about 26 acres so far, with about 40% contained.

"(Firefighters will) have a presence out here for the next couple of days after that, hoping to finish containment of the fire relatively shortly," CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Matt Dunham said Monday night.

The hot weather and steep terrain caused challenges for responding fire crews.

No structure damage or injuries have been reported.
