Armed suspect shot by Porterville police officer

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KFSN) -- An investigation is underway into a shooting between officers and an armed suspect in Porterville.

It happened just after 10:30 pm Thursday in the area of Main Street and Oak Avenue.

Police received a call about an armed, masked man, later identified as 44-year-old Lucas Drak of Porterville, causing damage to an office at the Glenwood Apartments.

After an officer found the suspect, he took off running with a knife in his hand.

The officer started chasing him, ordering him to drop the knife.

Drak then tried to go inside the Mecca Bar with the knife, and that's when the officer fired his weapon, hitting the suspect once.

The suspect continued into the bar, where he was tased and eventually taken into custody following a struggle with officers.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were hurt.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting, while Porterville police handles the criminal investigation into the suspect's actions leading up to the shooting.
